"The work can be interpreted as an abstract landscape, atomic diffusion, a breath, the night (ÖÖ in Estonian), the egg in biology, the beginning, the end, the beginning of the end, a new beginning."

  • 1. What aspects does this artwork integrate (formally, plastically, or conceptually )?

This work is an A5 drawing made on a typewriter, where the pattern is created through the random repetition of the number zero and the letter "o". The result is multiple infinities. It is a projection of what I respond to in the next question:

    2. Where is it embedded? (what was the genesis of the making? - the milieu, the context).

This work is part of my plasmatic daydreams: in moments of apparent creative nullity in the studio, I often resort to the typewriter as a means of unblocking. In one of these moments, I thought of reinforcing this "void" with the nullity of the digit zero and the redundancy of the letter "o". Ironically, by using them to fill what was the "void" of the blank page, they became the "whole". And ideas began to flow.

    3. What Question or Action does it propose?

    Convergence

    Repetition

    Redundancy

    Infinitude

    Continuity

    Circularity

The work can be interpreted as an abstract landscape, atomic diffusion, a breath, the night (ÖÖ in Estonian), the egg in biology, the beginning, the end, the beginning of the end, a new beginning.

  • Xavier Ovídio (Portugal, 1989) lives in Lisbon and works between Lisbon and Toulouse. He is an independent, multidisciplinary artist. His artistic practice involves personal and social contexts. By intertwining the two, he creates installations and paintings that critique and respond to current working and housing conditions, or simply mirror his everyday life, his passage, and pilgrimage in the world.

He has exhibited in various locations in Portugal, including Appleton Square (Lisbon) and Fundação Oriente (Lisbon), as well as in other countries such as Rundum Space (Tallin, Estonia), Pärnu City Gallery (Parnu, Estonia), and BBK (Osnabrück, DE).
